When the LCBO boasts about the

"billion dollar dividend" it has given

to the province of Ontario

for each of the last four years ...

"The LCBO transferred a record $1.280 billion dividend to the provincial government in 2006-07, excluding all taxes. This is an $80 million increase over last year. It was the 13th straight year the LCBO increased its dividend to government, the 12th straight record year and the fourth consecutive dividend of more than $1 billion."

Remember, it was your money ...

As the largest buyer of beverage alcohol in the world, the LCBO enjoys considerable clout when it buys beer, wine and spirits.  And, since it dominates the market on the sale of beverage alcohol in the province, it can exploit that advantage through high retail prices.

Its buying advantage and market share combine to deliver the annual "dividend" that the LCBO sends to the province each year.  For each of the last four years, that dividend has been over one billion dollars.

According to its 2006-07 Annual Report, for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2007, the LCBO recorded $3,922,648 in sales.  Thirty-two point six percent (32.6%) of this sales revenue was returned to the province as a dividend.  Think about that fact this way ...

The next time you buy a $16.00 bottle of wine at the LCBO, $5.21 is for the province's "dividend" and the remaining $10.79 buys the wine, ships it to the warehouse, distributes it to the LCBO stores AND RUNS THE BUSINESS -- paying the stores' rent, utilities, insurances, marketing, advertising, promotion and the salaries and benefits of every employee, from the president to the cashiers.

"Make" that $16.00 bottle of wine a Bloor West Winery and your cost is half, or less.  Of course, you save money at Bloor West Winery, but that's just the beginning ...

We buy our wine juices from

commercial wineries that sell to the LCBO

and operate their own Winery Retail Stores

As an independent on premise winery, we carefully choose the best wines from different Canadian suppliers.  Two suppliers are businesses owned by huge commercial wineries that supply the LCBO and operate their own retail stores.

RJ Spagnols, a division of Vincor, is owned by Constellation Brands which is the largest wine business in the world.

Winexpert is owned by Andew Peller Limited.

Both produce wonderful products as commercial wines and for on premise wineries.  Both have vineyards in wine regions throughout the world and offer the benefits of shared supply, capital and research.

You can "make" their very best wines on premise for under $8.00 per 750mL bottle.  These wine-region specific -- sometimes single vineyard wines -- are fermented on varietal grape skins for all the colour, body and flavour of their commercial wine equivalents.

Ask and you will learn that our customers actually prefer their own wines to commercial produts.   Sure, they love the price ... but they also enjoy the look, smell and taste of their wines.  They appreciate the fact that their own wines contain less additives than commercial wines.  They like refilling their bottles rather than lugging the empties back to The Beer Store for a refund; they know that refilling trumps recycling.

Savings of 50% and more

are yours ...

The AGCO, which licences and regulates the on premise industry, makes it difficult for the on premise winemaking industry to attract new customers -- for instance, we are not allowed to sample our wines ... we cannot show the price per bottle except on the Internet ... we cannot facilitate "group buying" where a few customers might wish to share on premise wine between them.

By law, you must start and bottle your wine (using our modern equipment) to enjoy these savings and to sip, savour and share your very own wine ... from your personal wine cellar.

And, you pay for your purchase at the time of order.  That way, we are handling the intermediate wine making steps on your behalf.

Finally, you need a little patience.  While our top-end wines are pleasant to drink the day they are bottled, they will become spectacular with some bottle ageing.  When you visit the winery, we can advise you which wines may be enjoyed young and which will pay huge dividends after some time.  Some new customers make two wines on their first visit -- one to age and one to enjoy immediately -- and that's a practical way to escape the LCBO's high-price world.
